  • Doctorate degree and Valid Missouri superintendent certification
  • Prior Assistant and/or Superintendent experience

 

FLSA:  Exempt

Salary Schedule:  Per Approved Administrative Salary Schedule

Direct Report:  Superintendent

Purpose: The job of Assistant Superintendent of Academic and Education Services is for the purpose(s) of assisting the Superintendent in leadership and managing the overall district operations in accordance with board policy and the district’s vision and goals aligned to the SJSD Comprehensive School Improvement Plan; the development and implementation of all components of the district’s instructional, curriculum, data, academic programs and services; directing a collaborative effort with cohesiveness and consistency with the department directors, building principals, and staff of; the SJSD District’s Elementary Education (PK-6), Secondary Education (7-12), PK-12 Special Services, PK-12 Assessment/Program Evaluation/Professional Development, PK-12 Federal Programs and Grants, and PK-12 Data Management departments, to produce and deliver the highest quality and excellence in student performance and staff professional development in support of the district’s strategic mission and goals; providing consistent communication and information serving as a resource to others in implementing and achieving defined objectives through collaboration, planning, evaluating, developing, implementing and maintaining academic services in compliance with established goals, policies, directives, guidelines; and procedures while serving as an integral member of the leadership team.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Attend work in a regular, reliable and punctual manner.
  • To "telework" when requested by the District.
  • Serve as an instructional leader
  • Ensure the district is accredited pursuant to the Missouri accreditation process.
  • Promote student achievement as the primary focus for all district staff.
  • Administer and enforce the provisions and regulations of state and federal laws, State Board of Education, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and the SJSD Board of Education.
  • Ensure all contracts, agreements, and legal documents, reports and data required by state and federal law are administrated, appropriately signed, tracked, filed and submitted.
  • Advise the Superintendent on matters of policy, curriculum and instruction, finance, facilities, technology, personnel and student issues as applicable.
  • Provide Superintendent necessary information in advance to all board meetings.
  • Attend board meetings and maintain district records.
  • Direct a performance-based evaluation program for all staff he/she oversees.
  • Research information available for all programs accordingly and applicable to support decision making.
  • Make recommendations to the Superintendent regarding the purchase of or use of materials for all programs accordingly and applicable.
  • Oversee the administration of Federal Programs and Grants, Director of Elementary Education department, Director of Secondary Education department, Special Services department, Assessment, Program Evaluation/ Professional Development department, and Data Management department.
  • Coordinate, collaborate, communicate, and evaluate with directors, building principals, , staff, and committees to develop plans and recommendations for overall school improvement and student performance aligned with district’s goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate, collaborate, communicate, and evaluate the interaction of all programs with the Superintendent of Schools and Assistant Superintendent of Operations and Non-Academic Student Services, directors, and leadership team.
  • Oversee the duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.
  • Ability to act in lieu of the Superintendent of Schools when applicable.

Skills and Abilities


Language

This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills. The individual who holds this position must: Have sufficient reading skills to interpret educational, scientific and technical journal articles, financial reports and board policy, governmental regulation and guidance and legal documents. Have listening skills sufficient to receive inquires and complaints and respond appropriately. Be able to communicate effectively and make effective presentations to the board, staff and community.


Computation
Ability to do basic mathematic calculations and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.


Reasoning
Ability to define problems, collect data, verify facts, make valid conclusions and deal with abstract concepts.


Technology
This position requires basic skills in the use of computers and hand-held devices such as PDAs and phones.


Other Skills and Abilities

This position requires strong interpersonal skills including the ability to: Coordinate, collaborate, communicate, and evaluate staff while maintaining collegial working relationships with all staff and members of the Board of Education. Maintain a positive relationship with school members and community, and effectively manage any conflict.

Physical Demands

The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak and must have close moderate and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities. The position requires a moderate amount of travel, both in and out of state.
