Qualifications: 

Required: Master’s Degree in School Counseling and/or valid state certification for elementary school counseling with valid Missouri teaching certificate, or sufficient preparation to qualify for same.

Preferred: Some teaching and/or school counseling experience.

 

FLSA: Exempt

Salary Schedule:  Per Approved Salary Schedule

Direct Report:  Building Principal and Coordinator of Counseling Services

Terms of Employment:  9 Month

Eligible for emergency telework: Yes

 

 

Purpose: As a member of the District Counseling Department, the counselor facilitates and oversees a Missouri Comprehensive Counseling Program for students within assigned building(s).  The counselor provides activities to meet the needs of the students, consults with teachers, staff and parents to enhance their effectiveness in helping students, and provides support to other educational programs.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Attends work in a regular, reliable and punctual manner.
  • To "telework" when requested by the District.
  • Implements the guidance curriculum for the purpose of delivering classroom presentations so that each child can be served in the areas of social/emotional development, academic success and college and career readiness.
  • Counsel’s small groups and individual students with problems for the purpose of providing support where needed.
  • Coordinates responsive services and crisis counseling to assist with the student safety and well-being.
  • Consults with teachers, staff and parents for the purpose of meeting the developmental needs of students.
  • Consults with parents for the purpose of referring students with severe problems to the appropriate community resources.
  • Evaluates and revises the building counseling program for the purpose of meeting the comprehensive counseling needs of the students.
  • Pursues professional growth for the purpose of continued education in the field of counseling, which includes attending SJSD counseling department meetings and professional development activities.
  • Various other duties as assigned for the purpose of serving school counseling needs of students and staff. Participates in non-guidance duties on a fair-share basis.
  • Other duties assigned.
