Qualifications: 

Required: High school education or equivalent. Must have completed an acceptable 4/5 year apprentice program. Must have a minimum of 6 years experience in the plumbing trade. Must have a working knowledge of local and BOCA codes. Must have working knowledge of tools and equipment as required to perform specific task. Must be familiar with various plumbing repairs and new installations. Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds, and air lifts. Physically able to perform the specific job. Able to lift fifty (50) pounds or more. Must be able to work in cold and hot temperatures. Must be able to work from job work orders, specifications, drawings, etc. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Success completion of a background check, physical capacity assessment, and drug screen prior to start date.

Preferred: Some new construction experience preferred but not required. Must have good planning and organizational skills.

 

FLSA:  Non-Exempt

Salary Schedule:  Per Approved Operations Salary Schedule

Direct Report:  Trades Supervisor

Terms of Employment:  12 month

Eligible for emergency telework: No

 

Purpose:  This person is responsible for the maintenance, upkeep and installation of new equipment as directed of buildings for the School District of St. Joseph as instructed by the Director of District Operations or his appointed Representative.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Attend work in a regular, reliable and punctual manner.
  • Available for after-hour calls.
  • To make recommendations for purchase of supplies and materials related to proper building maintenance and upkeep.
  • To diagnose and make recommendations for contracted work when major repairs are required on the various equipment.
  • To keep tools and equipment in good operating condition.
  • To keep tools organized in order to minimize wasted time.
  • To keep shop and work bench clean and orderly at all times.
  • If a vehicle is furnished by the District it must be kept clean and orderly at all times.
  • To maintain safe working conditions at the assigned job station at all times.
  • To safeguard School District property, buildings, tools and equipment from damage in performing daily assignments
  • Must maintain a positive, cooperative, and respectful working relationship with other maintenance staff, principals, teachers, parts suppliers, and the District Supervisors and Administrators.
  • Must maintain appropriate grooming and appearance to work in a school setting as described in the district handbook.
  • Basic computer skills are necessary for recordkeeping.
  • Must be available for and respond to emergency call outs.
  • To perform other duties as directed by the Director of Maintenance and/or his appointed representative.
