Position Title:  Speech & Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA)

 

Qualifications: 

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from a program ASHA approved to grant Master’s SLP degrees OR Bachelor’s Degree in other area with a total of 21 hours in five speech/language areas (anatomy/physiology, phonetics, development, disorders (acquired and developmental) and clinical methods); 25 hours of SLP observations; and 25 hours of SLP clinical assisting or practicum. Certification issued by the Missouri Board of Healing Arts. Have or able to obtain a MO NPI (National Provider Identifier) Number.

Salary Schedule:  Per Approved SLP-A Salary Schedule

Direct Report:  Speech & Language Pathologist

Terms of Employment:  9 month

Purpose:  The job of Speech & Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) was established for the purpose(s) of under the supervision of a speech and language pathologist, conducting various tasks/treatment interventions to assist student with speech and language disorders.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Attends work in a regular, reliable and punctual manner.
  • To "telework" when requested by the District.
  • Participates in direct service billing for Medicaid.
  • Adapts educational materials and equipment for the purpose of providing intervention and/or meeting the individual student’s needs based on the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Assist in facilitating meeting and communications between the SLP (therapist), building level staff, parents, etc. for the purpose of developing plans and providing information regarding students’ goals.
  • Collects data on student achievements, progress on IEP goals, for the purpose of documenting activities, lessons, preparing reports, and updating IEP logs or therapy notes.
  • Consults the speech language pathologist, teachers, etc. for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services.
  • Instructs individual students with appropriate instructions based on the supervision of the SLP. This may include but is not limited to phonetic alphabet, vocabulary and language, fluency, oral motor exercises, sound system disorder corrections, for the purpose of implementing goals for remediation of speech and language disabilities.
  • Maintains and prepares a wide variety of manual and electronic materials (i.e. charts, logs, records and or reports) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, conveying information, and complying with mandated requirements.
  • Maintains augmentative communication devices and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability of required tools.
  • Participates in parent/teacher meetings, professional development as requested, in-district training and /or other meetings for the purpose of receiving or conveying information related to job responsibilities.
  • Other assigned duties.
